Suicide were an exparimental duo from New York City that consisted of Alan Vega & Martin Rev.
Alan Vega (real name Alan Bermowitz) was originally a painter and sculpter of 'light sculptures' in a museum by the name of "The Project of Living Artists", but after seeing two seperate proformances of The Stooges live back-to-back, it motivated him to make dynamic audio art rather than static visual art.
Martin Rev (full name Martin Reverby), before Suicide, already had a wife and four children. He and his wife were mainly in the Avant-Jazz scene, where he met Alan at "The Project of Living Artists". He started Suicide with Alan in 1970.
The duo are most known for their 1977 self-titled debut album (not to be confused with their sophomore album that released in 1980), which fused the raw stylings of Punk with minimalist Electronic music, and no doubt had an influence on both genres, as they were pioneers in both genres, along with being early adopters of the No Wave scene.
The two would weave in-and-out of disbanding, working on their solo careers and reforming in the following years, along with changing their sound through the years as well: going from Free-Jazz, to Synthpunk, to Synth-Pop, to Industrial and even Ballad. This cycle would end in 2016, when Alan Vega would die at the age of 78.
