Who are the Pete Namlook?

Bio:

FAX +49-69/450464 was a label for ambient-adjacent electronic music owned by German musician Pete Namlook.

FAX +49-69/450464 (or just FAX for short) started out as a label for primarily trance music. However, after Pete Namlook (real name Peter Kuhlmann)[1] grew tired of the trance scene, the label pivoted to ambient music - where it would stay for many years.[2]

The label is known for it's rather minimalist logo: nothing more that a small circle (sometimes a globe, or even a triangle coming out of a circle) in the top-left of a bigger circle (sometimes a solid colo(u)r, other times an image). During the early years of the label, the big circle's colo(u)r would indicate the genre, and the smaller one's colo(u)r would indicate the series (sometimes with a numeral).[3]

The label also hosted a large cast of characters that Pete collaborated with. Artists including, but not limited to: Bill Laswell, Geir Jensson (AKA Biosphere), Klaus Schulze, Uwe Schmidt (who ran his own sublabel under FAX), Jonah Sharp, Tetsu Inoue, Richie Hawtin, David Moufang and more![4]

During his time owning FAX, Pete would work on well over 100 albums. And, although mainly ambient-adjacent, was no stranger to experimenting with several different genres; such as jazz, world music and tech-house. Sadly however, the label would be put to bed in late 2012 when Pete died at the age of 52. May he rest in piece.
